Acupuncture & Trans Wellness: Why Community-Centered Care Matters

Honoring the Wisdom of Trans & Gender-Diverse Bodies

At True Nature Wellness, I work with many trans and gender-diverse clients who arrive carrying far more than physical symptoms. There is the stress of navigating a world that often misunderstands or misgenders you; the hypervigilance that becomes part of everyday life; the cost of medical transition care; and the difficulty accessing affirming support that feels safe, grounded, and consistent.

Acupuncture and integrative bodywork offer a place to soften these layers.
A place where your breath can settle, your system can unwind, and your whole self can be held without judgment.
A place where your identity is honored, affirmed, and celebrated — not navigated around.

This is the heart of my work. And it’s why the Trans Wellness Fund exists.

What Trans Clients Commonly Experience in Their Bodies

Every body is unique, but there are certain patterns I see frequently in my trans and gender-diverse patients:

• Chronic tension + nervous system activation

Years of bracing, masking, or navigating unsafe environments often shows up in the body as tight shoulders, shallow breathing, insomnia, migraines, restlessness, digestive patterns, and chronic fatigue.

• Hormone-related changes

For folks on HRT, acupuncture can support balance, mood, sleep, skin health, circulation, and overall resilience.

• Emotional exhaustion + burnout

When a body is in survival mode for too long, the system becomes depleted. Acupuncture and somatic-based care help restore vitality, regulate the stress response, and rebuild inner reserves.

• Pain from binding, tucking, packing, or post-surgical recovery

Acupuncture, cupping, gentle fascial work, and craniosacral therapy can help release discomfort, improve circulation, reduce inflammation, and support tissue healing.

How Acupuncture Supports Trans Wellness

1. It regulates the nervous system

Acupuncture signals the body to shift out of fight-or-flight and into rest-digest-repair. This supports emotional regulation, sleep, digestion, and overall ease.

2. It creates a safe relational space

Your care matters just as much as your symptoms. A trauma-informed, affirming treatment room provides a place where you don’t have to perform or defend — you can simply be.

3. It supports hormone health + overall equilibrium

Whether someone is on HRT or not, acupuncture helps regulate mood, circulation, temperature dysregulation, sleep, and emotional steadiness.

4. It helps with chronic pain, tension, and trauma patterns

From surgical recovery to rib compression from binding to chronic jaw or back tension, acupuncture helps release long-held patterns and bring the body back into its natural rhythm.

Why I Created the Trans Wellness Fund

Many of my trans clients tell me the same thing:
They want regular acupuncture and bodywork because it helps them feel more at home in their bodies — but they struggle to afford consistent care.

Sliding scale can help, but even then, many folks minimize their needs out of guilt, shame, or financial strain.

The Trans Wellness Fund exists so:

  • no one has to choose between care and rent

  • no one has to apologize for their needs

  • no one has to ration their healing

  • no one has to wait until they’re in crisis to seek support

It is a community-supported fund dedicated to subsidizing treatments for trans and gender-diverse people in Sonoma County. When someone donates, it directly covers care for another person — person-to-person, heart-to-heart.

Why This Matters in Sonoma County

We live in a beautiful, progressive area — and still, many trans people experience barriers to care, insurance issues, long waitlists, and providers who are not gender-affirming or trauma-informed.

By offering a dedicated Trans Wellness program inside a holistic health clinic, we’re creating:

  • Accessible care

  • Safe space

  • Consistent nervous system support

  • Community-based healing

  • An environment rooted in respect and sovereignty

This is not charity.
This is community medicine.
This is how we take care of one another.

How to Support the Fund

If you feel moved to support this work, you can:

  • Donate directly to the Trans Wellness Fund

  • Share the program with someone who may need it

  • Refer a friend, patient, or client

  • Connect me with local organizations who want to collaborate

Every contribution — no matter the size — helps someone in our community feel less alone and more supported in their healing.
