Frequently Asked Questions

“As you start to walk on the way, the way appears”
— Rumi
At True Nature Wellness in Sebastopol, patients often ask what acupuncture feels like, how it works, and what to expect before starting care. I’ve put together answers to the most common questions here. If you don’t see your question listed, please reach out — I’m always happy to connect and make sure you feel comfortable moving forward.
Does acupuncture hurt?
Most patients are surprised by how gentle acupuncture feels. The needles are as thin as a human hair, and many people barely notice them. Some feel a brief tingling or heaviness that quickly fades. In fact, many patients become so relaxed that they take a nap during treatment. A common piece of feedback I hear is:
“That was the most gentle and painless acupuncture I’ve ever had.”
What should I expect at my first acupuncture session?
Your first visit at True Nature Wellness begins with a detailed intake where I ask about your health history, lifestyle, and main concerns. I’ll also check your tongue and pulse, traditional methods that help guide treatment. After that, you’ll relax on the table with very thin, sterile needles placed at specific points. Most people feel calm, grounded, or even nap during the session. The whole appointment usually lasts about 75–90 minutes for a first visit.
How long is an acupuncture appointment?
The initial session is usually 75–90 minutes since we take time for a thorough consultation. Follow-up treatments are generally 50-60 minutes. This allows your body plenty of time to settle, shift, and respond to treatment.
How many acupuncture treatments will I need?
The number of sessions depends on your specific condition, how long it has been present, and your overall health. Acute issues may improve within a few visits. Chronic or long-standing concerns usually benefit from more consistent care over several weeks. Together we’ll create a personalized treatment plan and reassess regularly to track your progress.
Are there any side effects of acupuncture?
Acupuncture is very safe when performed by a licensed practitioner. Side effects are rare and mild. Occasionally you might notice a small bruise, light soreness at a needle site, or feel extra relaxed or tired after your session. These effects are temporary and usually fade quickly. Most patients report feeling better right away.
What conditions does acupuncture help with?
Acupuncture can support a wide range of health concerns, including pain relief, stress and anxiety, sleep issues, digestive problems, and more. Treatments work by improving circulation, calming the nervous system, and harmonizing the body’s natural healing processes. This combination not only eases specific symptoms but also promotes overall balance and well-being.
Have you treated my specific concern?
With over a decade of clinical practice in Sebastopol, I’ve worked with patients experiencing chronic pain, neuropathy, emotional stress, headaches, fatigue, and more. Each treatment is personalized, combining hands-on experience with a deep understanding of Chinese medicine. If you’d like to know more about my experience with your specific condition, you can schedule a free 10-minute consultation or send me a text.
How do I choose the right acupuncturist?
Choosing an acupuncturist is both practical and personal. Look for someone who is licensed, experienced, and who has treated concerns similar to yours. Just as importantly, notice how you feel in their space and whether you feel heard and supported. Healing works best when there’s trust and connection between patient and practitioner.
Can I combine acupuncture with other treatments or medications?
Yes. Acupuncture works well alongside other treatments, including physical therapy, counseling, and medication. It can support your body’s healing process and help reduce side effects of other therapies. If you’re on complex medications or have specific health concerns, I’ll take that into account and encourage coordination with your primary provider.
Do you accept insurance for acupuncture in Sebastopol?
I do not bill insurance directly. However, I can provide a superbill for your acupuncture treatments at True Nature Wellness in Sebastopol. Many patients submit this to their insurance company for partial reimbursement, depending on their plan’s out-of-network coverage. I recommend calling your provider to ask if acupuncture with a licensed acupuncturist is included in your benefits.
How much does acupuncture cost?
New patient visits and return visits are listed on my [BOOK] page. Return visits are $105. Packages are also available. I can provide a superbill for reimbursement if your insurance plan covers out-of-network acupuncture.
Where are you located and how do I book?
True Nature Wellness is located in Sebastopol, Sonoma County. You can find directions on my [CONTACT] page. Appointments can be booked online through my [BOOK] page or by calling/texting 707-694-3528.
Do you offer other services besides acupuncture?
Yes. In addition to acupuncture, I also offer Integrative Touch Therapy, which includes bodywork and craniosacral techniques.
Can you give me a list of what acupuncture treats?
These are some of the most common reasons people come see me — it’s by no means the whole story, but I’ve had the honor of supporting many folks through all of these and beyond. I have a heartfelt passion for treating pain and emotional health, because there’s something profoundly moving about watching someone return to their body with less burden, discover a little more light in their everyday life, and step forward with a quiet, renewed courage.
